It Doesn’t Matter Until It Does – Market Proverb

Everyone has heard this phrase and its variants but today was the real live example of what it means. Print the charts, save the headlines, plant this indelibly in your brain, so you can say it to your friends with some meaning. Shortly after 9:00 am the following headline came out.

Immediately the reaction was felt in the S&P 500 Futures, Gold, and Treasuries.

Was this shocking news that nobody could have forecast? Of course not. It was always out there but ‘It Doesn’t Matter Until It Does.’ Did S&P reveal insights about the budget battle? No, that was out there as well, ‘It Doesn’t Matter Until It Does.’

Store it away. Remember it. Plan for the next time that all of a sudden news matters.
