With the Superbowl on Sunday most of you will be busy forking over money to write your name in several boxes so that the you have a random shot at winning some of your friends or coworkers money. Frankly I do not get it. You end up with a 1/25 chance to win against the fair odds but how often does 1-1 come up compared to 7-0 or 7-3? Why not just go buy a few scratch tickets? But since it is a tradition we American;s are bound to do it forever, like watching the firetrucks in the Fourth of July Parade or eating too much at Thanksgiving. Your time will be precious today so here are three stocks that are easy to buy and will give you a sense of being tied to the Superbowl whether you watch it at home or out with friends. Maybe toss your money in these instead.
Anheuser-Busch InBev, $BUD, the King of Beers. This stock has been in a rising channel since September. it had its Golden Cross in December if you are into that and is about to have the 100 day Simple Moving Average (SMA) cross up through the 200 day SMA, lets call that the Platinum Cross and see if it sticks. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is bullish and the Bollinger bands are expanding higher. What is not to like here? And you can back up your bet by buying some beverages to enjoy while watching the game either at home or out.
Buffalo Wild Wings, $BWLD, is also in a rising channel. This one since August, and currently in an upswing. It has a minor warning, having printed a Shooting Star Thursday, but an move higher Friday will cancel that. And the rising RSI and Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator support that happening. As does the move of the upper Bollinger band, opening higher Thursday, and the rising volume on the move up. You can back up your bet here as well with a few orders of Blazin’ wings.
La Z Boy, $LZB has been trending higher since October, with a minor hiccup around Thanksgiving, of all times. Odd. But since mid December it has been riding that trend line support higher like it is holding the tow rope on the bunny slope at Camelback. The RSI is bullish and strong and with all the SMA rising it looks great for a continued run higher. Whether you will be sitting at home alone watching or you just leave the bar at half time since the game is just not competitive (only 1/4 have finished with a victory margin of 5 points or less) sitting in your La-Z-Boy is a great way to re-enforce this bet.
There you go, easy-peasy lemon squeezy. Now back to picking the best box.
