Recharging the batteries

Every profession has its stresses. Its up times and down times and everything in between. Plus your life outside of your profession does not always mesh well with those highs and lows. This can lead to extra stress or extra boredom. You always see some people deal with this better than others. Those people are generally the one’s who know how to compartmentalize the many aspects of their life. Sealing the stress into certain situations. But even that does not work all the time. Some times you just need to recharge your batteries.
This applies to trading as well as every other job. And despite many of my followers calling me a machine, it applies to me too. To deal with this I like to take off for a day or week or even just an afternoon. And after a stressful spring with a volatile earnings season, combined with major house damage from ice damns I took Thursday afternoon to recharge my batteries.
Many of you know that I work from home. The modern world is great for that. I talk to my partner in the Dragonfly Capital Managed Accounts business on line through out the day. And have more of the computing power, hardware and screen space than I had on Wall St. This is great. But this also means I do not get outside much, and I work all the time.
So for me a recharge means leaving the house and unplugging. And with the Fed decision out of the way, the non-farm payrolls past, and earnings season really slowing down, this was a good week to find some time. I am a big sports fan and the Indians seemed to understand my need to recharge, as they scheduled a mid day game on Thursday. With a forecast of 65 degrees and sun it was tailor made for me.
I drove to the park, found a $5 lot and walked to Progressive Field. I walked a round for a bit and managed to get a field box ticket on the third base side for $20. Trevor Bauer pitched a great 7 and 1/3 innings and left with a 1-0 lead. That ended 4 pitches later when Mark Rzepczynski gave up a 2 run homer and we lost 2-1.
But I still was able to relax a bit and enjoy the game on a nice sunny day. Oh, and like any good fan, I was also able to improve my seating late in the game to the view below. Just a great afternoon. And the market was kind as well, climbing to a new all-time high close on the S&P 500.
Now back to Options Expiration for Friday, refreshed, relaxed, recharged. How do you recharge?
