I’ve got plenty to be thankful for…..

Bing Crosby singing those words in the movie Holiday Inn come to when I first think of Thanksgiving. This year especially so. I have been lucky enough to share my love of markets and finance with some of the students at Case Western where I teach, but this year, through a strange series of events, I was essentially teaching full time. Being on campus so much more let me really get to know some of the kids and learn of their dreams and aspirations. Thanks for sharing with me. I hope I can continue to be more involved.

I am also thankful for the interaction I get with people on Twitter, Stocktwits, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. I have met so many great people that I would never have had the opportunity to come across without these platforms. And many of them are sharing with my students as well. The internet is incredible!

Family also brings great things to be thankful for. Starting with my extended family, here in Cleveland on my wife’s side. It is wonderful that we get to spend time with so many on a regular basis. And although we cannot get to all the family events on my side of the family up and down the east coast we relish it when we can and live it in our heads through Instagram, keep it up Grannie!

Watching my kids grow up brings great joy as well as hair pulling frustration as any parent knows. But these two young musicians, mathematicians, scientists athletes and explorers amaze me as I watch them learn and grow. Whether it is with green, blue or red hair or learning at school, Khan academy or from the master bass player, I would never give up the chance to watch and guide and learn from them.

And most of all I am thankful for my wonderful wife. After 15 years I still wonder how I managed to end up with such a beautiful woman with superpowers. Driving her businesses forward relentlessly, making every event for the kids happen, keeping our lives in order and still smiling and playing with me at the symphony or a ballgame or nice restaurant. Especially this year where I was essentially doing two (or more) full time jobs and not helping out so much. You are my love and a real blessing to have in my life Christine.

As you sit around the table this Thanksgiving I hope you take some time to reflect upon what you are thankful for. And share it with others. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
