It All Started 2 Years Ago Today……

That was when I wrote my first blog post. The market had just started pulling back from a top in late April and there was a chorus of calls from armchair level pickers (can’t call them technicians) that the technical indicators just did not matter any more. It was that extreme noise/sentiment/buffoonery that led me to open a blogger account and write Charts Still Do and Have Always Mattered. Funny how things do not change. Rolled two years forward the market is also pulling back from a top and the calls to abandon technical analysis are just as loud. Even the revered Josh Brown, @ReformedBroker, is in that chorus. Love him as I do, I still have to vehemently disagree. I have written often about why this happens and the misunderstandings that many have about technical analysis. Some of these articles are listed below along with a good one I remember from J.C. Parets, @allstarcharts, recently.

But a lot has changed since then as well, for both the good and the bad. My family got out of the NY City area, which was toxic for me, moving to the suburbs of Cleveland. I moved from writing once a week to now about 3 times per day. The Dragonfly Capital Views Premium Service started and after a quick 6 month charge performance is holding up in the chop and falling markets. My personal trading has shifted much more towards options to both better control risk and lever good set ups. My golf game is suffering from lack of practice. 70 hour weeks take their toll. My son lost his first tooth. Oh and most recently I started growing this beard. There have been a couple of cycles in the market showing real seasonality in the S&P 500 over the last 2 years.

Through all of this I would not change much. It has been hard at times. Being prepared for the week can be a real drag on a nice Friday night or sunny Saturday afternoon. But the reward, not just from the research panning out in performance, but from the ability to help others with less experience and share my thoughts with other market pros for reactions and comments makes it all worth while. I do not know what the next two years will bring other than a continued diligent work ethic, a response to every question asked and a desire to share unique and sometimes quirky insights that technical analysis gives. And of course classic music. Thanks for reading.
