And so ends the first 5 years…..

Five years ago Saturday I wrote my first blog post. I had never intended to do it. In fact I was finally getting comfortable a year after getting laid off after a merger during the height of the financial crisis from a miserable job as a derivatives trader at a large bank. I was posting ideas to social media and trading my own accounts. Happy to share and feeling no need to expand my thoughts beyond 140 characters and a picture.

But then the flash crash happened. I was watching financial news television back then. As you can imagine the rhetoric and opinions were quite strongly expressed at that point. And from my desk most seemed wrong and uninformed. It did not happen right away, but about 2 weeks later and I can’t recall which non-technician pundit said it, but it was something like “technical analysis would never have saved you from this!” At that point I felt I had to speak out and the Dragonfly Capital website and blog was formed.

I can’t recreate the fire in my blood as I wrote back then so here is an excerpt of that first post:

Since that first post the site has changed and expanded. My business has evolved to include a Subscription Newsletter and an Investment Management business. But one constant has remained. Ever since that first post, I have endeavored to post non biased, practical technical analysis in a form that can be applied to the real live markets. Whether it is daily trade ideas or macro analysis or what might seem like off topic areas like position sizing or risk management, my goal has been to give straightforward, uncomplicated and unbiased information.

If you have been with me for these first five years thank you. If you have only read one post, well thank you too. I look forward to continuing this path wherever it may take me, and hope to have some of you along with me. Enjoy your long weekend and remember what is important in life.
