The Debate, Gennifer Flowers and Match.com

News has surfaced that Gennifer Flowers will be at the debate tonight between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Some say she will be seated next to Mark Cuban. If any of this is true it will likely make what was going to be a massive media event into a ratings bonanza. Many are suggesting that Donald Trump invited Gennifer, Bill Clinton’s ex-mistress, to get under Hillary’s skin. I have another thought on it.

What if Gennifer Flowers were there as part of her own media event? An appearance to promote the Match.com dating website. I have no knowledge of this but the stock chart is telling its own story. Take a look.

mtch

The chart of Match.com ($MTCH) stock had been consolidating all summer long. This has to be bad news for a dating site. Shouldn’t there be a lot of dating going on in the summer? As it churned in a tightening consolidation, a symmetrical triangle, the management must have been going crazy. Then in early September the conventions were over and all political eyes shifted to the debate. Mark Cuban added heat to the process by challenging Donald to a one-on-one interview. With no acceptance from the candidate he ramped up the rhetoric by announcing he would be in the front row at the debate.

Match.com management had there set up. Now they contact Gennifer Flowers and get her to commit to being at the debate. They know all eyes will be on her. And that Match.com logo lapel pin will be shown world wide. The stock starts to move higher as word gets out of her appearance. It breaks out of the triangle pattern at the end of last week and moves higher. This gives a target price of 1967, the year of her birth. Well at least what she told Bill. A pause ahead of the weekend and it builds into the event. Now it just needs the appearance Monday night to explode higher.

This is total marketing genius or totally made it nonsense. But it is proof that you can create any narrative to go with the movement in price action. So in the end just follow the price action, buy the stock and enjoy the debate.
