How to Spot a Perma-Bear

The Bank of Japan intervened in the stock market while we slept and gave a surprise month end gift to the world markets. Great news for the stock market. But some will not be happy. It is too bad. But these types will never be happy. At a cocktail party you would call them ‘Glass half empty’ people or Debbie Downer. In the stock market, over the last 5 years, they are called perma-bears. If you are new to the market or just focus on the good news around you then you may not recognize them so easily. They are important to identify because they can ruin your day with just one sentence. So let me point out a few tricks to make it easier to recognize them while the market is at all-time highs.

1. A Perma-bear points out that “when this happened 10 years ago….” – if you hear this phrase followed by any of the following Crash/Correction/Buy Gold.

2. With prices rising and 10 indicators confirming it, a perma-bear will find the one indicator that is not participating

3. They say things like Hindenburg Omen

4. They look like Dr. Evil

5. They answer every argument with ‘But the crash of 1929…”

You get the picture. Stay away from these people. They do damage to your psyche and your portfolio.
