5 Years of Dragonfly Capital Premium

The Dragonfly Capital Blog started as a way for me to sort out my thoughts, express my views and share my ideas with the world. I had been trading for many years but inside Wall Street firms. I thought getting laid off in a double whammy, with a reverse merger coinciding with the financial crisis, was the worst thing that could happen to me. It turns out it was one of the best things that could happen. It forced me to look inside myself and explore taking different risks. Working for myself I needed a process to sort out my thoughts and organize my work. That led to finding social media and the blog.

Shortly after the Premium Product started. I knew there were a lot of trading services on the internet, but wondered how many were about a complete process as opposed to a ‘just follow me’ model. It turned out there were few. I wanted to give more that just a ‘follow me’ model. I wanted to educate on the process so that users could start to grow and find ideas for themselves as well. Like the story about teaching a man how to farm and fish instead of just feeding him.

So Dragonfly Capital Premium developed as a full blown front to back process and service. Starting with a Macro analysis of the major Indexes to find the trend and then see how it might be impacted by other markets. With that done an analysis of a universe of charts to find 10 fresh ideas that are aligned with the macro view is next. But a process includes a plan, so those ideas need analysis, triggers, stop losses and targets with a plan for adjusting risk. As a swing to position type trader, that left a lot of time waiting for triggers and moves. Adding earnings trades, also with analysis and risk management, filled that gap. And that has been the product for 5 years. It has not changed because it works. The model portfolio is now up 390%.
